Atelier Chokerbali

Stand no. 757

I am a French nomad currently based in the UK.
Traveling in India many years back while still working in the French film industry, I discovered the fascinating world of gemstones. I met wonderful people willing to transmit their knowledge to me and I came back and stayed in Jaipur a few months to learn everything I could about stones.
I produce unique handmade jewellery using semi-precious gemstones and fresh water pearls, enhanced by sterling silver elements.
In my more recent work, I have started adding beads I collected throughout my extensive travels in Africa, most of them antique; Venetian glass beads, trade beads, excavated beads hundreds of years old.
I get my inspiration from observing street art and the ingenuity of local people all around the globe. The stunning colour combination of a Sari, the intricate weaving of a wicker basket, the pattern of an African textile….

With a love of all things sparkly, I have always enjoyed buying and wearing individual pieces of jewellery and seeing what wonderful creations people have made. Being one of those ‘crafty’ people- always making something, I was inspired t0 look into various silver-smithing courses in order to start making jewellery myself. Following a n umber of courses, I haven’t looked back! I can spend hours in my workshop in Harlow, Essex experimenting and making various jewellery pieces. Hope you enjoy wearing them as much as i enjoy making them! Also, come along and take a look at my wooden wick candles that crackle like a fire when lit and are handmade by EcoSoya wax so completely toxin-free. Made in many colours and beautiful scents from Sweet pea, Sherbet lemon and Liquorice Twist (a personal favourite!) to vanilla cream, Cinnamon Twist and Gingerbread surprise! I look forward to meeting you.

Girlwithbeads Recycled Fashion

Stand no. 612

Girlwithbeads loves to create wonderfully unique handmade recycled bags, clothing and accessories for adults and children.
As a student I began scouring charity shops for materials to experiment with and soon discovered a treasure trove of inspiration. I love the challenge of taking existing items and turning them into something new whilst keeping a sense of what they were before.
Each design has its own personality, charm and history, from the very British Flat Cap Bag, to the country tweed Suit Bag and the 1970’s floral curtain Shopping Bag; they all have a definite spark of nostalgia.
The great thing about using recycled materials is that every creation is unique, so you can be happy in the knowledge that your item is a complete one-off.

I have had my work featured in various exhibitions and books, and been involved with lots of events and workshops all promoting eco design.

Designed unique accessories are aimed at individuals who take great pride and interest in their appearance and who capture a moment and enjoys it with a huge passion for life in everything they do.
My passion is “Crazy Wool” technique. It allows me to make fashionable accessories and garments combining different yarns and fibres, machine stitching and water soluble stabilisers. Each work is unique and unrepeatable. Also big inspiration for me is Victorian era fashion style. You can see it in my handmade jabots and brooches. I like to use different materials, such as: lace, feathers, sea shells, pearls, beads and Swarovski crystals.

Henson & Blue

Stand no. 152

Henson & Blue is a mish-mash of creativity. When we’re not working as graphic designers, copy writing and coaching small businesses on brand and communication, we’re indulging our passion for paper. From handmade cards and invitations to origami gifts, mobiles and boxes, we simply can’t get enough of its papyrical loveliness. Our workspace looks like a paper mill where hoovers are banned because it’s amazing what you can recycle out of off-cuts and paper scraps. We illustrate and sell our work printed as canvasses and posters and whenever we can, we work with private clients creating handcrafted paper-based event paraphernalia like table decorations, centrepieces, floral bouquets, hanging gardens and more. This is our first big show and although we’re a tad nervous, we’re looking forward to meeting and sharing the Handmade experience at The O2 with some of the UK’s finest crafting geniuses. Our website is coming soon. Promise…

Stand no. 476

Liz Kemp – From my workshop in Billericay, Essex I design and make my bags and accessories. Working with textiles I use a variety of carefully selected natural fabrics including silk, wool and vintage, but mostly I use 100% wool tweeds which are woven in Wales by my sister. The tweed is unique, beautiful, soft, hardwearing and lovely to work with.
My designs are unfussy but interesting and I use the design features of the cloth to ensure every bag is unique. I like to play around with colour, texture and shape and sometimes incorporate applique or other creative techniques in the design. I really enjoy the creative process and pride myself on my attention to detail and quality. I try to ensure my bags are practical as well as stylish.

Martha and Hepsie

Stand no. 742

We’re sisters! Both made redundant from our ‘proper’ jobs and with degrees in design, we’ve put our sibling rivalry behind us (by Martha living in Sheffield and Hepsie in Devon) to create martha and hepsie. Our designs are inspired by life, who we are and a little bit of laughter; and our aim is to create affordable gifts and homewares that you’ll love!
A little bit more about us:
Martha (the northern one!): With a degree in Textile design from Nottingham Trent, Martha moved to London to develop her career in design and production working for designer Lisa Stickley and Gisela Graham. With experience under her belt Martha has recently returned to her nothern roots relocating to the steel city of Sheffield to focus on martha and hepsie.
Hepsie (the not so soft southerner!): Gaining experience from placements at Mathew Williamson, Copperwheat Blundell and trends agency The Bureaux during her Fashion and Business Studies degree at Brighton, Hepsie returned to Devon and progressed a career with jewellery brand Kit Heath. Now she is ploughing everything she knows into martha and hepsie.
All our pieces are designed in Martha’s snug Sheffield studio and made in Great Britain.

I am a self-taught glass artist based in Saxmundham, Suffolk.
I have been creating and designing Fused Glass Art for the last 4 years, and just recently started to exhibit in galleries which has been very successful and gathering quite a following.  I make many items including bowls plates, coasters, soap dishes, clocks, wall panels and glass art pictures plus many other item come and have at look.
As each piece of glass art or jewellery is an original unique creation completely hand worked and is a time intensive process. The glass is cut to shape, and then the pieces are combined in several layers and fired a number of times in a high temperature kiln. Urbanknit

Stand no. 744

Urbanknit is a small independent label started by Dolapo James in 2003 to create one-of-a-kind handmade fashion accessories in the broad categories of bags and scarves for those with a taste for something a little different. We love the idea of accessories that are a bit quirky and unique which will give that great outfit just the right amount of drama. Our pieces are wearable and fun at the same time.
We welcome the challenge of putting a modern twist on what is considered to be traditional, be it wool or batik! We also hope this makes the pieces fun and more accessible to all and believe that beautiful and unusual things come out of Africa and this should be celebrated where possible. In our small way, we would like to promote the universal appeal and ‘exportability’ of African art and craft. As more people discover Urbanknit we hope they feel that they have found something they enjoy wearing again and again.

West Country Creative

Stand no. 854

At West Country Creative, Jo Hunter designs and makes a range of gorgeous accessories all featuring an element of polymer clay. Whether it’s a beautiful bag with bespoke buttons, a string of hand-made beads, a brooch, fabulous shawl pin or purse with an exquisite zip pull, her range of designs are inspired by her passion for pattern and colour. Having chosen a fabric, Jo draws on her training as a graphic designer, to produce a collection of accessories incorporating made-to-match beads and buttons which coordinate perfectly with her chosen cloth. She makes everything herself from start to finish. This includes the colour matched clay canes featuring millefiori, lace or other pattern techniques which Jo uses to ensure that her beads and other embellishments work with her fabrics to best advantage. Bead, button, bag and shawl pin making workshops are also available at her spacious, light and airy Devon studio.

Wheels and Butterflies

Stand no. 436

All of my pieces and displays are made using materials which originally had an alternative purpose. I often find it saddening that technology seems to replace craft in today’s society. Although I do believe that technological advances are very important to our future, I find it vital that we also celebrate our past, and the skill and time taken in crafting objects. Typewriters have been replaced by computers, often watches are now battery operated, and the beauty in the object itself has been lost in favour of cheaper designs. By taking broken or discarded items, one can celebrate the beauty of our industrial past by simply appreciating their aesthetic. Something beautiful.

Woodmouse Workshop

Stand no. 866

Alison Finch has been working with textiles for over forty years. Designing bespoke Millinery and making reproductions of vintage outfits leaves some waste materials that Alison repurposes as toys, gifts and beanbag ipad/book stands. The stands are flexible enough to be used on your lap or a chair arm while allowing the tablet multiple viewing angles, also they are excellent for people who are unable to support the weight of a tablet for long.
The puppy puppets and greyhound Christmas stockings are inspired by Alison’s rescued hound while the Silly Squid and Christmas Mice are pocket money toys ideal to hide on a tree for young present hunters to find.
